Tips

  • Path lighting - is important both for safety and for beauty, but you don’t always need to use path lights right at the edge of the path. Mix directional path lights with ambient lighting within the landscaped bed for a more natural look.
  • Decks , Patios and Steps - extends your living area, where we spend our time with friends and family, down lighting from above gets that moonlit effect without blinding people, using post lights to create focal points and deck lights to cast shadows can all be used to create the effect you’re looking for
  • Home and Architectural - for lighting pillars, stacked stone, or other architectural features can enhance the look of your home
  • Driveway. You don’t need a lot of lights, as most people using a driveway will have their headlights on. But you can beautify the journey to the home by lighting the landscape nearby or strategic marking lights to lead you to your destination
  • Trees – Up lighting into trees creates bold shadows in the landscape, it is all about the drama of bold shadows and strong effects. By aiming the lights upwards into a tree or onto an architectural feature, you emphasize the contrast of dark shadows with bright light.
  •  Moonlighting - Create down lighting effects by placing lights within tree branches and aiming them toward a patio or garden bed mimics the romantic effect of moonlight.
  • Patio covers and pergolas – Down lighting or hanging a chandelier overhead feels inviting and creates ambiance.
  • Water features – Underwater lights are available to highlight the waterfall’s rippling water in a simple and classic way, as well as light the surrounding area and create reflection.
  • The human eye is drawn to the brightest light so careful consideration should be taken in all layers of designs.
  • Special effects with lighting– There are many ways of playing with light and shadow to create special effects in the landscape. Filtering light downwards through the canopy of an oak, pine or maple tree produces a lacy shadow effect on the patio. Amplify the effect of a focal point by using it to cast a dramatic shadow on the home. Use a fireplaces to reflect warm light on the rippling surface of a water feature.
